BIOGRAPHY – URMILA MATONDKAR

             Urmila Matondkar was born on 4th February 1974 in Mumbai, India. Urmila is a daughter of a College Professor. Urmila was brilliant in her Academics during her school days and was also awarded a Scholarship when she was studding in 4th Standard. Urmila had entered the Film Industry since her childhood days and was counted in the list of Child Artist in 1980 and 1983 after the Blockbuster hit film ‘Kalyug’ and ‘Masoom’. 

           Later on growing big her performance in her debut film directed by N. Chandra’s ‘Narasimha’ in 1991 with Actor Turned Co-Host in T.V. Serial Shows, Ravi Bhel, Actress Dimple Kapadia and Actor Sunny Deol actually made her a well – deserved Actress in the Film Industry. But Urmila feels that her fantasy films were ‘Chamatkar’ with The King Actor Shah Rukh Khan and Naseeruddin Shah in 1992 and ‘Shreeman Aashique’ with Rishi Kapoor and Anupam Kher in 1993. And in both the films she received excellent compliments from her fans and The Film Faternity. 

          Urmila believes that she lack out in her luck factor as well as in the Best Wishes in the entire Struggling days of her Career. She many flops films in her acting career like ‘Kanoon’ and ‘Aa Gale Lag Ja’ in 1994, ‘Daud ‘ and ‘Aflatoon’ in 1997, ‘Kudrat’ and ‘Chota Chetan’ in 1998, ‘Hum Tum Pe Maret Hain’ ; ‘Kaun’ ;  ‘Janam Samjha Karo’ ; ‘Dillagi’ and ‘Khoobsurat’ in 1999, ‘Jungle’ ; ‘Deewane’ and ‘Kunwara’ in 2000. In 2003 its was ‘Tehzeeb’ with Actor Arjun Rampal which failed at the Box-office. Her work in the film ‘Banaras’ with Ashmit Patel in 2006 was based on the rituals and Superstitions which was also a flop film. 

          But Every one has some of its Golden Moment Times in Life To Enjoy. And Yes even Urmila had enjoyed some these Times though it had taken a long time but finally came in her life. It started with release of Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘Rangeela’ in 1995 with opposite Jackie Shroff and Actor Aamir Khan. Her Magnificent performance and Acting listed up in her for the first time in the Filmfare Best Actress Award Category. Her next suprising Role was seen in the film ‘Satya’ in 1998. The story of this film was based on a modest girl whose boyfriend playing a titular character named (Satya) gets stucked into the Bombay Underworld. 

         After this movie she started playing roles making an impact in most notably films like ‘Pinjar’ with Manoj Bajpai in 2000, Ram Gopal Verma's ‘Bhoot’ with Actor Ajay Devgan in 2003. She once again gave a terrific performance in the movie ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ with Saif Ali Khan in 2004. Her Rocking performance and acting talent in ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara’ casting Anupam Kher in 2005. This film was based on a man accused of Gandhi’s Murder. She then had a Super hit Blockbuster hit film directed by Onir titled as ‘Bas Ek Pal’ in 2006 casting with Co-stars like Juhi Chawla , Sanjay Suri and Jimmy Shergill. This film was a love story and had rememberable, Heart -Touching soft track played by Atif as ‘Tere Bin’ ; ‘Dheere Dheere Chal’ and title ‘Bas Ek Pal’ from many Unkown Artist. Urmila will be very soon be seen in Shyam Bengal’s ‘Chamki’ continuing with Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘Sholay’ , ‘Speed’ and ‘Autography’ in 2007.   

AWARDS:

              Urmila was first nominated in Villainous Category in the Filmfare Awards for the film ‘Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya’ in 2001. In 2003, she received Filmfare Critics Award in the category of  Critics Awards for Best Performance for the film ‘Bhoot’ and Apsara Annul Awards in Best Actress Category for ‘Bhoot’. She was also nominated in Apsara Annual Awards in the Best Actress Category for the film ‘Pinjar’ and Received Zee – Cine Award for Best Actress Award for ‘Bhoot’. In 2004 she was Nominated again in the Zee – Cine Awards for Best Actor Award – Female for the film ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara’.
