Deepti Naval (Indian Film Actor)

DEEPTI NAVAL PORTRAYAL OF STRONG CHARACTERS

Deepti Naval is an award-winning actress acclaimed for her compassionate performances in Hindi
cinema during the 1980s.

Deepti Naval was born in India and attended college in United States of America , where she was educated at the City University of New York and received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at Hunter College in Manhattan. Deepti Naval started her films in Ek Bar Phir in 1980. Deepti Naval is known to be a sensitive actress and was a part of the art films and light films.

Though considered as talented as Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil she somehow did not achieve the same stature in terms of awards or memorable casts.

Naval is most known for her portrayal of strong characters in films like Mirch Masala, Ek Baar Phir
and Main Zinda Hoon. A gifted actress, she has been recognised for her involvement in alternative cinema and for her choice of unusual and complex character roles.

Deepti was never short of work in her long absence. "I had many offers," she says. "My absence was out of choice. At some point, I realised I was doing many films but wasn't getting any satisfaction. My roles in Subash Ghai's Saudagar (1991) and Feroz Khan's Yalgaar (1992) in particular, put me off completely. But I must say I really appreciate today's heroines for their clarity of thought and hard work. And they all seem to have perfected the art of dancing," she concludes.

Deepti Naval makes a comeback on the big screen in India with Boney Kapoor's Shakti -- The Power and Trends Films' Freaky Chakra.

Deepti Naval was at one time married to filmmaker and director Prakash Jha. She was also once involved with actor Nana Patekar.

Two years ago, Deepti suffered a personal loss when her fiance Vinod Pandit (classical music vocalist Pandit Jasraj's nephew), expired. Deepti and Vinod had worked together in Thoda Sa Aasman.

Her discerning, mature and dignified performance of Mahattarika, the chief maid shows sensitivity
and prowess as an actress.

The actress, meanwhile, had done some Indian television shows --- Thoda Sa Aasman (as director-cum-actress) and Tanav (in the lead role). She has also travelled, indulged in painting and photography, written poems, and has involved herself in social work.
